Growing Revenue from the UK Market for a
Family-run DMC 


Established DMC Karavan Travel Turkey had a strong base of groups and MICE business but wanted to grow their leisure FIT business from the UK market.

With a well-known brand but limited UK awareness, SLC was hired to fulfil a remit of business development to grow tour operator contracts for Karavan Travel and drive commercial results.


Following our tried and tested methodology, our activity started with a UK trade landscape review.

Scouring the whole UK market, we provided an overview of all the tour operator programmes to Turkey and identified any gaps, as well as overlaying our market knowledge to prioritise operators in segments from groups and consortia to luxury.

Pitching to tour operators, we managed Karavan’s pipeline of potential accounts, supporting with key RFP responses and contract negotiations.

On an annual basis, we manage a programme of trade shows, training, fam trips, in-market visits and account management support for converted accounts, as well as maintaining relationships with our longer lead prospects.


Over the length of our contract, Karavan has secured key high volume and value tour operator partners including Trailfinders, Audley Travel.

In 2021 SLC secured a total of six new contracts, including group series operator Titan Travel in a competitive tender process. 2021 saw a 77% increase in revenue YOY generated from SLC activities.

With two new accounts already converted, 2022 is off to a great to a great start. The future looks bright for travel to Turkey and for Karavan Travel.

The DMC is well-positioned in the market thanks to the ongoing work SLC provided during the pandemic continuing to engage with existing accounts providing additional product information and options and training for frontline agents.
